Therapeutic Eating

HOW tO lOSE wEIGHT aND gAIN hEALTH

  • We evolved together with the food sources that were available during evolutionary times, and now have the capacity to process only those foods.
  • For most of human history, food plants were a part of an organic and vital ecosystem.
  • Now our soil has been depleted by harsh chemical agricultural practices, and our foods come to us tainted.
  • The foods available when we evolved our digestive physiology and our metabolic patterns included only what grew wild: animal protein such as meat and eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.
  • Our modern diets, however, are composed primarily of grain-based foods, such as breads and pasta, other starchy foods like rice and potatoes, beans, oils pressed from grains and beans, meat from animals fed grains and beans, concentrated refined sweeteners, and dairy products.
  • None of this was available when our digestive machinery was evolving, and we don’t do well when we eat it.
  • Eating a diet consisting of these non-evolutionary-based foods creates a variety of biochemical imbalances, most notably the tendencies to produce an inflammatory state and exist in a condition of chronic stress.
