Therapy for Children and Teens
- I use a variety of cutting-edge techniques that enable me to conduct psychotherapy with children in a way that can be tailored to meet their individual needs using techniques such as art therapy, Sandplay therapy, puppetry, and Neuro Emotional Technique (NET.)
- Traditional psychotherapies have relied on talking and/or self reporting in order for the client to gain insight and mastery over his or her symptoms and achieve emotional release. However, this does not appear to be the best approach for children.
- Children at Confluence Wellness Center are allowed to direct their own therapy, in that they may decide whether they would like to work with art therapy, play in the sand tray or even use physical movement or dance to allow their emotions to be expressed. The mainstay of my practice is NET, which children (and parents) often call “magic.”
- Traditional therapy for teens is frequently less than satisfactory. This is because the teens that need counseling tend not to be those who have enough self-awareness and self-esteem to do that kind of sharing.
- The NET process gives the teenager a language to describe his or her experience, thereby enhancing communication with parents.
